Well my husbands family is coming over for dinner next week and I dont know what to make. We havent seen them in years so I want it to be special? They live in Italy so I was going to make something Italian any ideas? I want a appitizer, main course, second course, and dessert. any recipes you have would be greatly appreciated or ideas.
There’s a difference between Northern Italian and Southern Italian cuisine/dishes.
Northern Italy tends to go for those localized dishes w/o any tomato sauce.
Southern Italy tends to be associated with the traditional Italian dishes.
Don’t guess. Ask your husband for suggestions. AND ask his opinion about one or more of thm come early to help you. You MIGHT JUST get some "extra points" and get on their better side.
As far as my preference, I prefer traditional southern Italian dishes: lasagna, veal parm, bracciola, pasta etc.
Appetizer: clams casino – easy to do: finely chopped and sauteed onions, green peppers and pimentos or red peppers. Top with a small piece of raw bacon and bake in a 450 degree F. oven until the bacon is done the way you like it. If you prefer well done bacon, you can always put the clams casino under the broiler to finish cooking the bacon.
Other suggestions: Prosciutto and melon.
Pimento and anhovies
Antipasto
Chicken Cacciatorre
Baked ziti
Hot or sweet Italian sausage w/ pasta
Mussels in red or white sauce.
Squid or octopu with pasta.
Spaghetti Caruso: Red pasta sauce with sauteed chicken livers and mushrooms.
Chicken Parmesan – same as the vel parm.
Dessert: Italian Rum Cake, cannolis and/or spumoni.
Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!
